Uttarakhand UCC bill is Hindu Code, forcing Muslims to follow different religion: Owaisi

AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi has raised objections to the proposed Uniform Civil Code (UCC) bill in Uttarakhand, asserting that it appears to be a "Hindu Code" with exemptions for Hindus and tribals. Owaisi argues that the bill violates fundamental rights by forcing Muslims to adhere to a different religion and culture. He questions the exclusion of Hindu Undivided Family from the code and emphasizes the need for uniformity, highlighting concerns about the bill's impact on tribal communities.

"The Uttarakhand UCC Bill is nothing but a Hindu Code applicable for all. Firstly, Hindu undivided family has not been touched. Why? If you want a uniform law for succession and inheritance, why are Hindus kept out of it? Can a law be uniform if it doesn’t apply to the majority of your state?" he wrote on X.

"There are other constitutional and legal issues. Why have tribals been excluded? Can it be uniform if one community is exempt," he said. The AIMIM leader said the code forces the Muslims to follow the culture of other religions.
