Mamata calls urgent meeting at Nabanna tomorrow, key administrative officials to attend
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has strongly criticized the BJP's recent statements regarding the National Register of Citizens (NRC) and the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA). Addressing a gathering in Cooch Behar district, Banerjee dismissed the assertions, stating that such noise is often stirred up as elections approach, reaffirming that citizenship is guaranteed to everyone residing in Bengal.
"Now, they are shouting CAA; this is politics. We have given citizenship to everyone (and) they (people in border areas) are getting everything. They are citizens, which is why they are allowed to vote," Mamata Banerjee said.
This response follows Union Minister Shantanu Thakur's declaration that the CAA would be enforced nationwide within the next seven days. Thakur, BJP's Lok Sabha MP from Bangaon, made the announcement during a public rally in West Bengal's South 24 Parganas, assuring that the CAA implementation would extend to all states across India.
In her retort, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee asserting "everyone is a citizen here.No one can remove the people here."
