Approximately 200 individuals marched from Sealdah station to Dharmatala Y Channel in Kolkata, voicing demands for employment opportunities. The protest stems from grievances related to the Memo No. 102/12, indicating a substantial number of vacant positions—32,123, within the Police Department under the Government of West Bengal.
The demonstrators highlight a lapse of three years since the publication of the last constable recruitment circular in 2020, expressing dissatisfaction with the state government's and the police recruitment board's perceived indifference towards initiating new recruitment.
The protest also addresses concerns beyond job creation, advocating for a reduction in the height requirement for women police officers' recruitment from 160 cm to 157 cm in 25 states.
