In a press conference held today, CM Mamata Banerjee issued a strong warning to the Central Government and the Indian Railways, declaring that she will not permit the demolition of the Dakshineswar Skywalk or any harm to the Heritage Body Guard Lines.
The Indian Railways had formally requested the state government to dismantle the Dakshineswar Skywalk, a proposal vehemently rejected by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. She stood by her commitment, stating that as long as she is alive, these structures will remain untouched.
She said, “Our job is to develop infrastructure. It is not our job to establish the project. When I was the railway minister, there was no East-West Metro. Dakshineswar, Noapara, Joka-Taratla were all done by me. It has been 15 years since 2009. A little bit of development was done. They (Centre) are doing small work and putting pictures. I left the money. Every Metro project was done by me.”
Furthermore, Chief Minister Banerjee announced a solidarity rally in Bengal on January 22, coinciding with the Pran Pratishtha in Ayodhya. The rally, stretching from Hazra to Parkcircus in Kolkata, aims to demonstrate unity and will be attended by the Chief Minister herself, who expressed her intention to visit temples, mosques, and gurudwaras.
