Bollywood actor Vivek Oberoi has come to the defense of director Sandeep Reddy Vanga amid criticism of the film "Animal." Oberoi, whose father, Suresh Oberoi, starred in Vanga's films "Animal" and "Kabir Singh," expressed his admiration for the director's unconventional approach to filmmaking. The actor likened Vanga to director Ram Gopal Varma, stating that he wants to work with Vanga, whom he considers a maverick thinker. "Animal," one of the top-grossing Hindi films of 2023, faced backlash for its portrayal of women, misogyny, and graphic violence.
Vivek Oberoi emphasized that artists often face criticism for their work, and as a creative person, he believes in viewing things from an artistic perspective without adhering to a fixed moral compass. He defended the need for artists to think outside the box and not be bound by societal norms. Additionally, Oberoi expressed happiness for his father, Suresh Oberoi, who is receiving multiple offers following the success of "Animal." The film featured Suresh Oberoi alongside actors like Ranbir Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Rashmika Mandanna, Triptii Dimri, and Prem Chopra.
