Heightened security measures on India-Nepal border ahead of Ayodhya Ceremony

Officials have announced an increase in patrolling and vigilance along the India-Nepal border in preparation for the 'Pran Pratishtha' ceremony of Ram Lalla in Ayodhya, scheduled for January 22 and to be led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Uttar Pradesh police have issued alerts across seven districts along the India-Nepal border, including Bahraich, Shravasti, Balrampur, Siddarthnagar, Maharajganj, Pilibhit, and Lakhimpur Kheri, with a primary focus on thwarting suspicious activities and curbing smuggling attempts.

Drones are being utilized to monitor unconventional routes, providing an additional layer of surveillance. The Additional Director General of Police (ADG) for Gorakhpur Zone, KSP Kumar, recently visited the Sonauli border in Mahanagar district to assess security measures, emphasizing the collaborative efforts with Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) officials who safeguard the India-Nepal border.

In response to the upcoming Ayodhya event, joint patrolling by the UP Police and the SSB has been intensified along the Nepal border, particularly in districts sharing boundaries with Nepal. The five districts in the eastern region and two in the western region, totaling 599 km of borders, are identified as critical areas for security measures.

KSP Kumar, ADG Gorakhpur Zone, assured the media of close coordination between the state police, SSB, and other central agencies to maintain peace along the India-Nepal border. A comprehensive approach includes a watchful eye on unconventional routes, with police outposts in Bahraich specifically instructed to remain extra alert and intensify their vigil. Similar intensified vigilance is extended to five other districts under the jurisdiction of the Lucknow and Bareilly ranges of the UP police.
