SC halts mosque survey orders, restricts lower courts in pending cases
In a recent interaction with Taaza TV, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed her concerns regarding the lack of national recognition for the Gangasagar Mela held in West Bengal. The Chief Minister revealed that she has written numerous letters to the central government, emphasizing the need to confer the well-deserved 'heritage status' upon the Gangasagar Mela.
Taaza TV highlighted the active participation and acknowledgment by Union Ministers in events like Murma Mela in Jharkhand, Kartik Mela in Gujarat, and Sonepur Mela in Bihar. Additionally, Prime Minister Modi frequently mentions these fairs in his tweets. However, the question arises as to why Gangasagar Mela, despite its international fame, remains relatively unnoticed.
Mamata Banerjee underscored the magnitude of Gangasagar Mela, stating, "The event witnesses more than one crore pilgrims on its initial two days. Surprisingly, we have never received any funds for hosting the event; the state bears the expense every year."
The Chief Minister reiterated that she has written letters to the Central Government multiple times, urging them to grant Gangasagar Mela national-level recognition. Despite the significant international acclaim, the event has yet to receive the same acknowledgment on the national stage.
