In preparation for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, senior Congress leader Ghulam Ahmad Mir, the Congress's in-charge of Jharkhand, emphasized the need for a "caste census" in the state. During his visit to Jharkhand, Mir conducted meetings with various units of the Congress, including the legislative party and the political affairs committee, to strategize for the elections.
State Congress president Rajesh Thakur and ministers Alamgir Alam, Rameshwar Oraon, Banna Gupta, and Badal Patralekh participated in the legislative party meeting. A resolution passed during the political affairs committee meeting authorized Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge to make final decisions on seat sharing for the upcoming polls, emphasizing the party's commitment to supporting the chosen candidate for victory.
Addressing the legislative party meeting, Ghulam Ahmad Mir expressed the party's commitment to the demand for a caste census in Jharkhand, aligning with Rahul Gandhi's vision to ensure government schemes reach deprived sections effectively.
Mir also highlighted proposals such as a 27 percent reservation for OBCs and the recognition of Sarnaism as a separate religion, which were forwarded to the Centre for approval after being passed in the state assembly. Despite these proposals awaiting action from the Centre, Mir criticized the perceived inaction, describing it as a betrayal to the tribal communities in Jharkhand. The Congress aims to convey this message to the people as part of their election strategy.
