BJP Maharashtra MLA Ram Kadam has lodged a formal complaint against Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Jitendra Awhad for his recent remarks about Lord Ram. Awhad, a member of the Sharad Pawar faction, sparked controversy by asserting that Lord Ram belonged to the 'Bahujans' and was a non-vegetarian, contrary to popular beliefs.
Kadam accused Awhad of attempting to hurt the sentiments of Ram bhakts and making fun of the Hindu religion to garner votes. The complaint follows Awhad's statements in response to Kadam's call for a one-day ban on alcohol and meat during the Ayodhya consecration ceremony on January 22.
Jitendra Awhad's controversial remarks claiming Lord Ram's non-vegetarianism have ignited a political and religious debate. Awhad asserted that Ram belonged to the 'Bahujans' and justified his statement by emphasizing the diversity within the community. BJP leader Ram Kadam condemned Awhad's comments, stating that they aimed to insult Hindu sentiments.
The controversy has extended to Hindu seers, with Ayodhya Seer Paramhans Acharya calling Awhad's statement contemptuous and urging strict action against him. Shri Ram Janambhoomi Teerth Kshetra chief priest Acharya Satyendra Das refuted Awhad's claims, asserting that Lord Ram was always vegetarian. The dispute over religious sentiments raises questions about the intersection of politics and faith in the lead-up to the Ayodhya consecration ceremony.
