Howrah Christmas Carnival to continue till Jan 2 on CMO's instructions

The Howrah Christmas Carnival, marred by a disturbance involving MLA and Minister Manoj Tiwari and his supporters on Wednesday, is set to resume till January 2, following instructions from CM's Office.

The carnival, which was scheduled to run from December 22 to January 2, faced an abrupt closure after Tiwari's supporters allegedly assaulted an officer of the Chief Administrative Office of Howrah Municipal Corporation over parking scam allegations.

The incident unfolded on Wednesday when MLA and Minister Manoj Tiwari, accompanied by his supporters, created a ruckus at the carnival, accusing it of being involved in a parking scam. The situation escalated as the Chief Administrative Officer of Howrah Municipal Corporation was reportedly beaten, and the Chief Administrator was prevented from addressing the press. Faced with an uncontrollable situation, Dr. Sujoy Chakraborty, the head of the corporation, issued an apology to the people of Howrah and announced the closure of the carnival.

However, this morning brought a different directive from the Chief Minister's Office, signaling the resumption of the Howrah Christmas Carnival until January 2. Dr. Sujoy Chakraborty conveyed through Taaza TV that legal action would be taken against the miscreants involved in the disruptive events on the previous day. The Chief Minister herself is closely monitoring the situation and has emphasized a commitment to taking strong action against those responsible for the disturbances.
