Lucknow police announced the arrest of three individuals in connection with the ₹13 lakh theft from an ATM in Indira Nagar. The heist, which occurred on December 19, involved a present employee and two former colleagues of a company responsible for loading cash into ATMs.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police Qasim Abidi, the present employee masterminded the theft, utilizing the assistance of his two former colleagues by sharing the ATM's password. The accused, identified as Naushad Ali, Abhishek Kumar, and Aarif Khan, were apprehended near the Kukrail picnic spot on Tuesday morning, with a recovery of ₹9.20 lakh, two ATM cassettes, and one iPhone.
The police's investigation revealed that Naushad, still employed with the custodian company, possessed the ATM's password. The trio executed the theft by opening the machine using the PIN set by the company around 11:48 pm on December 19. The theft, captured on CCTV cameras in the Indira Nagar Sector B ATM kiosk, led to the recovery of a significant portion of the stolen cash and the identification of the perpetrators.
