Tensions within the Trinamool Congress have intensified as the rift between Barrackpore MP Arjun Singh and Bhatpara MLA Somenath Shyam takes a new turn. The ongoing dispute, initially centered around mutual accusations in connection to a party worker's murder in Jagaddal, has now evolved into a public expose of corruption allegations.
Both leaders, once aligned within the party, are now openly accusing each other of corruption, causing discomfort within the ruling party's district leadership. In response to the escalating situation, the party has taken a firm stance by censoring Arjun Singh on Tuesday, instructing him to maintain silence temporarily.
Somnath claims that Arjun Singh is involved in the teacher and municipality recruitment scam. He has defrauded the gratuity of the workers of Bhatpara Jute Mill. He further adds that "I have a yellow file, which is full of Arjun Singh's black blog. If I opens the file, the MP will have no place to hide like Saddam Hussein."
Arjun Singh has retorted and said that Somnath is an iron thief and he does not answer to such people. A section of the party in Barrackpore claims that Somnath has emerged in the party only after Arjun joined BJP. His dominance also increased in the Barrackpore industrial area. That momentum has stopped to some extent after Arjun's return to TMC in 2021. As a result, internal discord between the two leaders has increased.
