Pakistani-Hindu Dr. Saveera Parkash makes history; Nominates for elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Dr. Saveera Parkash, a Pakistani-Hindu and the current Pakistan People's Party (PPP) women wing general secretary in Buner district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, is set to create history as the first woman from the minority community to contest in the upcoming general elections.

Dr. Parkash submitted her nomination papers for the general seat of PK-25 on December 23, marking a pivotal moment for inclusivity and representation in the region. The general elections in Pakistan are scheduled for February 8, 2024, to elect members of the 16th National Assembly.

She completed her MBBS in 2022 from Abbottabad International Medical College, and expressed her aspiration to serve humanity, citing her medical background as the driving force behind her decision to enter politics. Her motivation stems from firsthand experiences of witnessing poor management and helplessness in government hospitals during her tenure as a doctor.

The move aligns with her desire to follow in the footsteps of her father, Oam Parkash, a recently retired doctor and active PPP member for the past 35 years. Social media influencer Imran Noshad Khan has endorsed Dr. Parkash's candidacy, emphasizing the historic moment as a breakthrough for women's participation in electoral politics in the region.
