In a significant development, Opposition parties belonging to the INDIA bloc have launched widespread protests across the country in response to the suspension of a total of 146 Members of Parliament (MPs) during the Winter Session.
The focal point of these protests is Delhi, where INDIA bloc leaders have gathered at Jantar Mantar for a demonstration held under the banner 'Save Democracy.' On Thursday, the Opposition leaders carried out a protest march from Parliament to Vijay Chowk to register their objection to suspension. Adding momentum to their opposition, leaders from various political parties participated in a protest march, commencing from Parliament and concluding at Vijay Chowk.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, alongside former party president Rahul Gandhi and other prominent leaders, actively engaged in the protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi. Meanwhile, several INDIA alliance members will carry out a nationwide demonstration at district headquarters.
Simultaneously, INDIA alliance members undertook protests at district headquarters across the country, broadening the scope of the opposition's response. The Delhi Congress chief criticized the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its allies, characterizing the suspension of MPs as an act of fear and a disrespect to the sanctity of Parliament.
"In the history of democracy in the world, 146 MPs have never been suspended... People should know that the democracy is in danger. The protest is to tell the people that whatever is happening is wrong for the future of the country... There is only one solution, people should change this government and bring the INDIA Alliance into power," Congress MP Shashi Tharoor said.
