The bidding battle unfolded with Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore in contention, but it was SRH that ultimately made history by shelling out the highest amount ever in the IPL for a single player.

CSK initiated the bidding at a modest base price of ₹2 crore for Pat Cummins, setting the stage for an intense showdown. This move solidifies Cummins' status as the costliest player in IPL history, marking his second stint as the league's most expensive foreign player, having been acquired by Kolkata Knight Riders for ₹15.50 crore in 2020.
