Speeding bus mows down pedestrian at MG Road more, driver flee
In a surprising turn of events, the income tax department conducted a raid on the residence of former Raniganj MLA, Sohrab Ali, in the mining town of Raniganj, West Burdwan district, on Wednesday morning. The operation was executed by a special team of income tax officials, with the support of Central Army jawans who surrounded Ali's house.
Raids are being conducted at seven locations linked to Sohrab Ali, including his residence in Raniganj and other places like Asansol. The authorities, however, have not disclosed any findings or seized documents at this point.
Sohrab Ali, who was elected as the MLA of Raniganj in 2011 representing the Trinamool Congress, has a controversial past. He had faced legal troubles and was convicted of theft, specifically for stealing railway goods. The court sentenced him to a two-year imprisonment term. Despite the conviction, he continued to hold his political position until the recent raid raised questions about his activities.
