LS discusses Ethics Panel report on Mahua Moitra case

The much-anticipated report from the Ethics Committee recommending the expulsion of Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra in connection with a "cash-for-query" case is set to be tabled in the Lok Sabha on Friday. The report, initially scheduled for discussion on December 4, was not presented during the earlier session.

The revised list of business for Friday, issued by the Lok Sabha secretariat, includes the Ethics Committee report as agenda item number 7. Alongside other bills and questions, this development adds a significant dimension to the ongoing parliamentary proceedings.

In a related development on Thursday, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman addressed the Rajya Sabha, emphasizing India's sustained momentum as the fastest-growing major economy. Highlighting robust growth across all sectors, Sitharaman pointed out that the second-quarter growth was the highest globally. Meanwhile, the Lok Sabha successfully passed the Central Universities (Amendment) Bill, 2023.

The ongoing winter session, which commenced on Monday and is scheduled to have 15 sittings until December 22, holds crucial importance for the Narendra Modi-led central government. As the last legislative opportunity before the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, the government aims to push through key legislation during this session.
