The counting of votes for the assembly elections in Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Telangana has commenced from morning 8 am, marking a pivotal moment in Indian politics as these results are seen as a prelude to the upcoming Lok Sabha polls in 2024. While Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Telangana went to the polls in a single phase, Chhattisgarh held elections in two phases. Currently, the counting process begins with the tabulation of postal ballots, followed by the votes from the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).
In Telangana, after initial rounds of counting, the Congress is ahead on over 66 seats, followed by the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) at 37 and BJP at 8. The majority mark in the state is 60. Voting across the 119 constituencies of Telangana was held in a single phase on November 30. According to the Election Commission, a voter turnout of 70.60% was recorded.
In Rajasthan, where voting took place on 199 out of 200 seats, the BJP is emerging as a frontrunner for a single majority, leading at 114 crossing the majority mark of 101. While Congress, aiming to break the "Rajasthan jinx," is closely trailing with 70. A win in the largest state of the country would mean Hindi heartlands trust in the BJP leadership, few months before the 2024 Lok Sabha election.
In Chhattisgarh, BJP is again dominating over 53 seats out of 90, leaving behing the ruling Congress at 35. Chhattisgarh assembly election, the polling for which took place on November 7 and 17, with a turnout of 76.31% across the two phases, marginally lower from the previous 2018 polls.
While in Madhya Pradesh, Assembly elections were held on November 17. The state being a traditional BJP stronghold for last 20 years is witnessing the grand old party's continued dominance, declaring it a clear win for BJP at 158, crossing the majority mark of 116. Congress trailing behind at 69.
