Speeding bus mows down pedestrian at MG Road more, driver flee
In a somber turn of events, a 20-year-old woman undergoing training as a Navy Agniveer was discovered dead in her hostel room at INS Hamla in Mumbai’s Malad West on Tuesday. The local police confirmed that the incident has been registered as an accidental death, revealing that the trainee was found hanging by a bedsheet.
The young woman, hailing from Kerala, had arrived in Mumbai just a fortnight ago and was residing in the Navy hostel, sharing accommodations with at least 20 other women. According to the preliminary information, doctors who promptly responded to the scene declared her dead.
The trainee's body has been sent for postmortem, and the police are actively gathering statements from colleagues and relatives to unravel the circumstances surrounding her untimely demise.
Agniveers, part of the Agnipath scheme, represent a shift from the military's traditional recruitment system. Introduced last year, this initiative aims to recruit soldiers for a four-year term, with the option to retain 25% of them in regular service for an additional 15 years after thorough screening.
