Babul Supriyo and Justice Ganguly's heated exchange on 2nd Hooghly bridge
On Saturday night, a woman became the victim of an acid attack allegedly perpetrated by her lover in the Konnagar Navagram area of Hoogly district. The accused, identified as Haru, was promptly apprehended by the police following the heinous act.
Local sources reveal that both the victim and Haru are married individuals, with the woman working as a hostess and Haru running a tea shop in the Jheelpar area. Their extramarital affair had been ongoing for the past three years, but tensions escalated when the woman abruptly ceased communication with Haru. Reportedly, this led to the vicious acid attack on Saturday night.
As per police accounts, Haru trailed the woman as she was returning home at night and allegedly threw acid on her in the C Block area. The woman sustained burn injuries, and her cries for help attracted the attention of locals who promptly informed the police. The victim was rushed to Kanaipur Health Center, and Haru was arrested. The accused was subsequently presented in the Serampore court on Sunday.
District BJP leader Pankaj Rai commented on the incident, asserting that it once again highlights the issue of women's safety in a state governed by a woman Chief Minister.
