India's historical contribution: UNEP reports 5% warming impact

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) released its Emissions Gap Report 2023 titled "Broken Record," emphasizing the global inequality in current and historical greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. The report reveals that 10% of the population with the highest income contributes nearly half (48%) of emissions, with two-thirds of this group residing in developed countries.

Per capita territorial GHG emissions vary significantly, exceeding the world average in countries like the Russian Federation and the United States, while remaining below half in India.
