In a significant development in the ongoing rescue operation to free 41 workers trapped inside a partially collapsed tunnel in Uttarkashi district, Uttarakhand, the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) achieved a major breakthrough. The rescue teams successfully installed a six-inch pipe into the debris, enabling better communication with the trapped workers and facilitating the delivery of solid food items.
Anshu Mansish Khalkho, Director of NHIDCL, stated that this accomplishment, a nine-day effort and top priority, will enhance communication and aid in providing essential supplies to the workers. The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has also contributed to the operation by deploying two robots weighing 20 kg and 50 kg to assist in the rescue efforts.
