SC halts mosque survey orders, restricts lower courts in pending cases
As Chhath Puja enters its second day, known as Kharna, devotees engage in traditional practices, preparing prasad like kheer, flour laddu, and puri at home. On the third day, Chhath devotees traditionally visit various Ganga ghats, lakes, and ponds to perform evening prayers.
However, in compliance with High Court directives, authorities in Kolkata have closed down Ravindra Sarovar in South Kolkata and Subhash Sarovar in North Kolkata. To ensure safety and prevent gatherings, Kolkata Police has deployed 250 officers and implemented strict barricading to restrict access to these areas. The Kolkata Municipal Corporation has also constructed artificial lakes for devotees to offer prayers without any hindrance.
