SC halts mosque survey orders, restricts lower courts in pending cases
Jyotipriya Mallick, the former Food Minister and current Forest Minister of the state, who is facing charges in the ration distribution corruption case, appeared before Bankshall Court through a virtual medium on Thursday. Malik informed the court about his deteriorating health, expressing concerns about his well-being.
The minister, arrested in connection with the corruption case, did not apply for bail during the hearing. He conveyed to the judge that his health condition was critical, with elevated sugar levels and impaired mobility in his hands and legs. The judge, considering his health, suggested sending him back to the jail cell without further virtual proceedings.
In the ongoing legal proceedings, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has filed an application seeking permission to interrogate Jyotipriya Malik in jail. The minister's advocate emphasized his client's illness, citing kidney problems at an advanced stage. The judge commented that the jail rules would determine the conditions of his confinement. The case is under continued scrutiny as the legal proceedings unfold.
