Speeding bus mows down pedestrian at MG Road more, driver flee
West Bengal Minister Jyotipriya Mallick, arrested in connection with a high-profile ration distribution case, was escorted from the ED office at the CGO Complex for a health checkup on Friday morning. Mallick, addressing the media during the brief encounter, claimed that his implication was part of a larger conspiracy orchestrated by the BJP. He affirmed that both Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and party National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee were aware of the situation and expressed confidence that the party leadership would support him during this challenging time.
Amid Mallick's assertions, a section of the party leadership has already begun to distance itself from the minister following his arrest. Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, Trinamool Congress's Lok Sabha member from Barasat, North 24 Parganas, stressed that Mallick's alleged actions wouldn't tarnish the party's reputation. However, senior Trinamool leader and state minister Shobhandev Chattopadhyay emphasized the party's policy of zero tolerance towards corruption, suggesting that the party might not support Mallick if the allegations against him were proven as was done in the case of Parth Chatterjee.
As a reference, the Trinamool Congress previously expelled former Education Minister Partha Chatterjee after a significant amount of cash and jewelry were recovered from his girlfriend's house, emphasizing the party's commitment to maintaining a corruption-free image.
