The Gaza Strip has witnessed an appalling toll on its children over the past days, with reports of 2,360 fatalities and 5,364 injuries due to relentless attacks, resulting in over 400 children either killed or injured daily. The crisis also resulted in several losing their lives, and dozens remaining in captivity within the Gaza Strip. This period marks the deadliest escalation of hostilities in the region since 2006, according to the United Nations.
In response to these circumstances, people in Kolkata's Park Circus have gathered to express their support for Gaza and Palestine. However, these demonstrations have adversely affected traffic in the area, as protesters raise their voices against the ongoing crisis.
Children in the Gaza Strip have been exposed to deeply distressing events and trauma, including widespread destruction, relentless attacks, displacement, and severe shortages of essential necessities like food, water, and medicine. UNICEF Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa, Adele Khodr, emphasized that the killing, abduction, attacks on hospitals and schools, and denial of humanitarian access are grave violations of children's rights. UNICEF urgently appeals to all parties involved to agree to a ceasefire, permit humanitarian access, and release all hostages, underscoring the importance of protecting civilians, especially children.
