Humayun Kabir who hailed Abhishek and criticized Firhad, apologises after CM Mamata’s reprimand
Kolkata Police has taken a significant step in the case of the tragic death of a Jadavpur University student due to ragging, filing a charge sheet against 12 accused, including former students. The incident, which occurred on August 9, prompted a written complaint from the deceased student's family, submitted to Jadavpur police station. The complaint alleged murder alongside ragging, an assertion subsequently substantiated during the police investigation.
The victim, a first-year student named Swapnadeep Kundu, suffered humiliation, physical abuse, and an attempt at unnatural sexual activity by senior students. Devastated by the ordeal, he ultimately succumbed to his injuries after falling from the fourth floor of the hostel. Among the arrested individuals is former university student Saurabh Ghosh.
Court sources revealed that the charge sheet underscores the student's enduring mental and physical torment from the very beginning of his stay in the hostel. It is noted in the charge sheet that the student faced direct or indirect mental and physical harassment at the hands of the accused, a situation that ultimately drove him to take his own life. The case is expected to involve a supplementary charge sheet as it progresses.
