In anticipation of the enormous crowds expected during Durga Puja celebrations in Kolkata, particularly in the Lake Town area, the State Fire Minister Sujit Bose decided to suspend the light and sound show at Shree Bhumi. The decision came after concerns about traffic congestion arose as pandals attracted lakhs of visitors.
Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate instructed the suspension of the show on Friday, Shashthi, as roads around the Late Town, VIP area, including those leading to Kolkata Airport, faced severe congestion due to the festivities. The move aimed to prevent accidents and massive traffic jams, based on the experiences from the previous year.
