The Lok Sabha ethics committee has scheduled a hearing for October 26 to investigate the "cash for query" allegations brought forward by BJP MP Nishikant Dubey against Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra. These allegations center on claims that Moitra accepted bribes to ask specific questions in Parliament on behalf of businessman Darshan Hiranandani with the intent to target the Adani group and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Mr. Dubey's complaint had been previously referred to the ethics committee by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. In his letter to the Speaker, Nishikant Dubey accused Moitra of breaching parliamentary priviledge, showing contempt of the House, and engaging in criminal conspiracy.
He cited a letter from advocate Jai Anand Dehadrai, which presented "irrefutable evidence of bribes" purportedly exchanged between Moitra and business magnate Darshan in exchange for her raising questions in Parliament. Moitra vehemently denied these allegations and expressed her readiness for any inquiry, while the Hiranandani Group refuted the accusations, emphasizing their focus on business rather than politics.
