In a devastating incident that unfolded in the heart of Howrah district, a family of three, including a one-year-old girl, lost their lives in a house fire in the Parijat area of Ward 25 within Uluberia Municipality. Local authorities were informed of the tragedy on Sunday, a day coinciding with the commencement of Devi Paksha, the auspicious period marking the initiation of Durga Utsav in West Bengal.
Suspicions surround the cause of the fire, with initial reports suggesting an electrical short circuit might have ignited the deadly blaze. The community, in the morning hours, was alerted by billowing smoke emanating from the house, but their efforts to rouse the occupants were met with silence. Concerned neighbors promptly alerted the police and fire brigade, who swiftly arrived at the scene.
Tragically, upon entering the residence, the lifeless bodies of Yasin Malik, his wife Mahima Begum, and their one-year-old daughter were discovered. Yasin's mother, Noorjahan Begum, sustained severe injuries from the fire but survived, currently receiving treatment at the Uluberia Government Hospital. Authorities have initiated post-mortem examinations to ascertain the precise cause of death, and a case has been registered in connection with the tragic incident. This heartbreaking occurrence casts a somber shadow over the beginning of the Durga Utsav festivities in the region.
