SC halts mosque survey orders, restricts lower courts in pending cases
In a significant move ahead of the Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections, the Congress party has unveiled its initial list of 144 candidates. The list includes the prominent name of former chief minister Kamal Nath, who will be contesting from Chhindwara. This strategic announcement came right after the conclusion of the 'Pitru Paksha' period, a significant time for Hindus to honor their ancestors, marking the beginning of the auspicious Navratri festival. Additionally, former chief minister Digvijaya Singh's son, Jaivardhan Singh, has been nominated to contest from the Raghigath seat, demonstrating the party's commitment to fielding influential leaders. The state is set to go to polls on November 17, with vote counting scheduled for December 3.
Notably, the Congress party's Central Election Committee convened to finalize these candidates at the AICC office in New Delhi. Meanwhile, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has already disclosed its candidates for 136 out of the 230 assembly constituencies in Madhya Pradesh, setting the stage for a highly anticipated electoral battle.
Congress also released its first list of candidates for other state assembly elections, including Chhattisgarh and Telangana. In Chhattisgarh, Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and Deputy Chief Minister T S Singh Deo have been nominated to contest from their respective constituencies, Patan and Ambikapur. Meanwhile, in Telangana, state unit chief Anumala Revanth Reddy and CLP leader Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu have been fielded for the upcoming assembly elections. Chhattisgarh's polls will be conducted in two phases on November 7 and 17, while Telangana's assembly elections are scheduled for November 30, adding further depth to the Congress party's electoral preparations.
