Jammu and Kashmir hit by 5.8 magnitude earthquake, no casualties reported
A tragic incident occurred in Jalpaiguri when a 50-year-old man, identified as Kancha Rai, lost his life due to an elephant attack.
Kancha was collecting stones in Titi river near the Titi river bridge on the Madarihat Totopara highway when he was attacked by an elephant, resulting in his immediate demise. Another individual named Madan Munda, who was accompanying Kancha, narrowly escaped the attack. \
The Forest Department and Madarihat police swiftly responded, recovering the victim's body for post-mortem examination. Kancha's family is expected to receive a compensation of Rs 5 lakh following the government's guidelines.
