Serious tensions have erupted in two sections of Nishchandra Abhaynagar due to internal conflicts within the Trinamool faction. Multiple residences and hotels have been subjected to vandalism, resulting in injuries to numerous individuals from both sides. Law enforcement authorities have apprehended 42 individuals in connection with the disturbances.
The conflict appears to have originated when Khokon Gayen, who was denied a party ticket in the Panchayat elections, decided to contest as an independent candidate. Trinamool leader Shasthi Gayen, while not openly aligning with Khokon, lent his support to him. Simultaneously, Asit Gayen's spouse stood as a Trinamool candidate, causing significant disruptions during the voting and counting processes. The situation escalated further when Khokon Gayen and Asit Gayen clashed over land-related issues yesterday.
As a result of this altercation, chaos ensued throughout the area, leading to the vandalism of Asit Gayen's residence and hotel, as well as attacks on the homes of Khokon Gayen and Shashthi Gayen, along with properties belonging to Khokon's supporters. The area remains tense, with clashes persisting through the night, necessitating a substantial deployment of both police personnel and referees to maintain order.
