Speeding bus mows down pedestrian at MG Road more, driver flee
A large section of central Kolkata, centered around Howrah Bridge, experienced a sudden traffic standstill on Tuesday morning due to a massive procession organized by thousands of Toto drivers and motorists. The rally blocked Brabourne Road and all surrounding routes after 11 am, significantly impacting the daily commute of office-goers. Howrah Bridge serves as a crucial gateway to Kolkata from Shilpanchal, and any disruption in its flow leads to traffic jams affecting the entire Kolkata and Shilpanchal region.
The procession, organized by Toto drivers, is demanding the regularization of Toto vehicles and permission to operate on GT Road. Currently, the court has mandated Toto registration and banned their operation on GT Road, prompting ongoing protests.
Kolkata Police officials are providing assistance to facilitate the rally's passage across Howrah Bridge to alleviate the traffic congestion. Normalcy is expected to return after 2:00 pm as efforts are made to clear the roadblock and restore regular traffic flow.
