High Court refuses immediate hearing on declaring Abhishek Banerjee's protest outside Raj Bhavan as Illegal

The High Court on Monday has declined an immediate hearing on the petition that declares the ongoing protest by Abhishek Banerjee, nephew of WB Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, outside the Raj Bhavan in Kolkata as illegal.

The division bench comprising Chief Justice T.S. Sivagananam and Hiranmoy Bhattacharya decided not to entertain the petition at this moment. Advocate Tarun Jyoti Tiwari had filed the petition, asserting that Section 144, which restricts gatherings, is always in effect near the Raj Bhavan.

Abhishek Banerjee has been conducting a continuous protest since October 5, setting up a stage, which is perceived by some as a security threat to the Governor and the Raj Bhavan. The court has accepted the petition and scheduled a hearing for the matter on Tuesday.
