Popular celebrities Kapil Sharma, Hina Khan, and Huma Qureshi have reportedly sought a one-week extension from the ED to appear for questioning in the Mahadev app betting case. The trio had initially been summoned to appear before the ED on October 6. These actors had previously endorsed betting apps on social media platforms and are now expected to provide vital testimony as witnesses in the case. They had also received compensation for their endorsements.
Kapil Sharma, the renowned actor-comedian, had reportedly attended a success celebration hosted by the app's promoters in September 2022, adding to the scrutiny surrounding his involvement.
Prior to this, actors Ranbir Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor were also summoned by the ED, with Ranbir requesting a two-week delay in his appearance. The ED's investigation into the Mahadev app betting case recently included raids on the offices of celebrity managers in Mumbai and Delhi, leading to the confiscation of approximately Rs 2.50 crore in cash. The case revolves around the company's alleged operation from Dubai, involving money laundering through complex benami accounts. The scandal came to light in February 2023 during the extravagant wedding of Sourabh Chandrakar, one of the app's promoters, which saw the expenditure of Rs 200 crore in cash.
Several other prominent figures, including Tiger Shroff, Sunny Leone, Neha Kakkar, Vishal Dadlani, and more, who attended Chandrakar's wedding are expected to receive ED summons, as it investigates the financial intricacies and transactions related to the case.
