The controversy surrounding the oath-taking ceremony of Trinamool Congress candidate Nirmal Chandra Roy, the winner of the Dhupguri by-election, has been resolved. Governor CV Anand Bose has designated Deputy Speaker of the State Assembly, Ahish Banerjee, to administer the oath to Roy.
However, this resolution has sparked a new controversy as the Governor bypassed the Speaker and assigned this responsibility to the Deputy Speaker.
Prior to this development, Speaker Biman Banerjee and Assembly Minister Sobhandev Chattopadhyay had expressed their displeasure over the Governor's role during an event commemorating the birthday of Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar in the Assembly.
