Mamata calls urgent meeting at Nabanna tomorrow, key administrative officials to attend
Revealing the murder of an old man in Nagarbazar Baiganbari, the police has arrested the driver of the house from Belgharia Expressway on Friday. The name of the accused is Saurabh Mandal. After killing the old man Kalyan Bhattacharya, he went to visit Digha with the old man's BMW car.
During investigation, the police came to know that a few days ago Saurabh had requested Kalyan to lend him his luxury car for a trip to Digha with friends. In cross-examination, Saurabh told that Kalyan had asked him to come on the 15th. On the fateful day, Saurabh visited Kalyan's residence as planned. However, when he arrived, he found the main door locked from the inside. Without hesitation, Saurabh entered the premises forcibly. To gain entry, he resorted to climbing over the fence. When Kalyan confronted him, an argument escalated, leading to physical violence. Saurabh pushed Kalyan, causing him to fall and sustain a head injury. Saurabh strangled Kalyan to death.
Following the murder, Saurabh fled the scene with the garage and car keys, driving the BMW car to his home in Barasat. From there, he embarked on the planned trip to Digha with his friends.
In an effort to track down the suspect, the police traced Saurabh's location using mobile tower data. Ultimately, they apprehended him on the Belgharia Expressway. Meanwhile, as part of their investigation, the Nagerbazar police station recovered the elderly victim's pet dog from a storeroom in Baiganwadi on Friday.
