NIA seizes properties of Khalistani extremist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun under UAPA

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has seized the properties owned by Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, the head of the banned Sikhs For Justice (SFJ) outfit, in Chandigarh and Amritsar. This action has been taken under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. The move comes after Pannun was designated as a terrorist by the Union home ministry in July 2020, with subsequent orders for the attachment of his properties.

The confiscated properties include a 1/4th share of a house in Chandigarh and 46 kanal of agricultural land in his ancestral village Khankot in Amritsar. A notice posted outside Pannun's Chandigarh residence states that the property stands confiscated to the state under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act, 1967, by orders of the NIA special court in SAS Nagar, Mohali, Punjab, dated 14/09/2023.

Gurpatwant Singh Pannun has been a vocal proponent of the separatist movement for Khalistan and has actively campaigned for it in the US, Canada, and the UK. He has also been involved in the controversial Khalistan Referendum and has been accused of inciting Sikh youth in Punjab to join militancy.
