Netherlands Prime Minister Mark Rutte has shared his perspective on the G20 New Delhi Leaders' Declaration, specifically addressing the paragraphs related to Ukraine. Rutte says “It was a compromise clearly. That is always the case when you come together as multilateral teams like the G20.”
After participating in the G20 Summit in New Delhi, Prime Minister Rutte traveled to Bengaluru, where he met with Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Monday.
Regarding the section concerning Ukraine in the G20 Leaders' Declaration, Rutte expressed satisfaction with certain key elements while acknowledging that, given the opportunity, he might have crafted it differently. He underscored the importance of India's role in facilitating a declaration that garnered the support of all 20 member nations.
The G20 Leaders’ Declaration, adopted at the conclusion of the September 9, 2023 Summit, reaffirmed the leaders' commitment to the priorities discussed and agreed upon during ministerial and working group meetings. The section on Ukraine in the declaration emphasized adherence to the UN Charter, discouraging the threat or use of force for territorial acquisition, as well as the inadmissibility of nuclear weapon use or threats.
