In a tragic incident, a 15-year-old student from INT English School in Purar, Mangaon taluka, Raigad district, lost his life after being struck in the head by a javelin during a practice session on Wednesday afternoon. The accident occurred as the student was tying his shoelaces while a javelin was accidentally thrown in his direction. The victim, identified as Hujefa Daware, was a 10th-grade student at INT English School in Purar.
The incident occured during a practice session on the school grounds, where students were engaged in javelin throwing. As part of the training, students from both ends of the field were participating in the exercise. Daware, in the process of tying his shoelaces, was hit in the head by a javelin thrown from the opposite end. He had been preparing for a taluka-level competition.
Atul Zende, the additional SP of Raigad, stated that the police have obtained CCTV footage from the school playground to determine the sequence of events leading to the tragic incident. Initial investigations indicate that Daware was struck by the javelin and immediately collapsed. He was rushed to the civic hospital in Goregaon, Raigad, where he was pronounced dead by doctors.
The police have registered a case of accidental death, but they are conducting a comprehensive investigation from all possible angles.
