SC halts mosque survey orders, restricts lower courts in pending cases
Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) has taken the decision to suspend Haris ul Haq, a Middle School Physical Education teacher, over his alleged involvement in fundraising activities from the school's students for earthquake-affected people in Turkey. The university's Public Relations Office issued a press release on Tuesday, confirming the suspension.
The press release highlighted that the fundraising activities were carried out without obtaining prior approval or permission from the competent authority, which constitutes a violation of the Central Civil Services (Conduct) Rules.
Furthermore, a police complaint was filed against Haris ul Haq by the university on July 31. The complaint accuses him of cheating, criminal breach of trust, and criminal misappropriation. It alleges that Haris ul Haq fraudulently collected ₹1.40 lakh by falsely representing that the funds were intended for the earthquake-affected people in Turkey.
The complaint also asserts that Haris ul Haq deceived the students, misappropriated the entire sum for personal gain, and operated under false pretenses. Subsequently, the matter was brought before the university's Executive Council (EC) during a meeting held on August 4.The EC vide resolution number 11 has resolved that disciplinary action may be initiated against Haris ul Haq as per rules, the release stated.
Additionally, the EC instructed the university to take appropriate measures for the recovery of funds and to pursue criminal charges in accordance with legal provisions. The press release also mentioned that Haris ul Haq had previously faced suspension in 2010 for misconduct.
