Big B joins the 'Bharat' chorus: Backs renaming of India on X

Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan has commented on the reported plan by the Narendra Modi-led Central government to change India's official name to 'Bharat' by removing the word 'India' from the Constitution. Taking to his official X (formerly known as Twitter) account on Tuesday, September 5, Big B expressed his support for this proposed name change.

In a brief but impactful message, Amitabh Bachchan wrote, "भारत माता की जय," accompanied by the Indian flag emoticon, signaling his endorsement of the 'Bharat' name.

Following Bachchan's social media post, the online community responded with a mix of appreciation and criticism. Many netizens praised the actor for his stance on India's name change to 'Bharat,' while others labeled him 'spineless' for his political viewpoint.

The government's intention to amend the Constitution and omit the word 'India' in favor of 'Bharat' is expected to be introduced through relevant bills during the upcoming Special Session of Parliament, scheduled to convene from September 18 to 22.
