Kolkata metro to be extended till Hooghly's Chuchura? Here's what Railway minister says
In a significant breakthrough, the Howrah Police Commissionerate apprehended a notorious individual engaged in fraudulent activities involving State Bank of India (SBI) ATMs. The arrested individual, identified as Mohammad Sahil, a 34-year-old resident of the Tiljala police station area in Kolkata, was caught red-handed installing a device designed to swindle unsuspecting ATM users.
The incident came to light on August 25 when the manager of the SBI branch in Bali, a locality in Howrah district, filed a First Information Report (FIR) detailing the fraudulent activities. According to the complaint, fraudsters were employing a devious tactic wherein they installed a device inside the ATM. This contraption caused cash to be deducted from the customer's account during withdrawal, but instead of being dispensed, the money became trapped in the device. Subsequently, when frustrated customers left the ATM, the perpetrators would swoop in, retrieve the trapped money, and make their escape.
Promptly responding to the complaint, law enforcement authorities devised a plan to catch the culprits in the act. On the following Thursday, August 31, the police successfully apprehended Mohammad Sahil while he was attempting to execute this fraudulent scheme inside an SBI ATM in the Bali area. The arrest was made and Sahil was taken into custody.
The investigation is ongoing, with the police intensifying efforts to locate and apprehend Sahil's accomplices involved in the ATM fraud operation. Authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities around ATMs to prevent falling victim to such scams.
