2 Raids led by CBI & ED on Kolkata Businessmen today morning | Tap to read details

Raid 1: In a significant development, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) conducted a raid at the Visa House located on 8/10 Alipore Road in Alipore, Kolkata. The raid was carried out on Monday as part of a probe into a bank fraud case. Approximately 25 CBI officials were reported to have entered the premises for investigation. The search operation was initiated based on a complaint filed regarding a fraud case that occurred in 2020.

The focus of the investigation is on Visa Steel, led by Bishwambhar Saran. The company has been accused of a bank fraud involving a massive sum of 351 crore rupees. The case was registered last year, and CBI officials are now conducting a thorough search at the Visa House premises to gather evidence. The allegations against Saran include declaring bankruptcy to evade loan repayments.

The CBI team, consisting of around 25-26 officials, arrived in five vehicles and entered the premises of Visa House. The investigation has been ongoing for several hours, with officials examining documents and interrogating staff members. Local police personnel are stationed outside the office to maintain law and order during the search operation.

Raid 2: In another related development, the city's industrial landscape witnessed heightened activity on Monday as the office of 'Leaps and Bounds' was searched by officials from the Enforcement Directorate (ED). The search, which extended from noon to overnight, resulted in the seizure of several documents crucial to the investigation. The ED's search operation concluded the following morning, and officials left the premises with three bags full of seized documents.

This development comes in the wake of increased scrutiny on various business entities in the city. Notably, Sujaykrishna Bhadra, also known as 'Kaku of Kalighat,' had previously come under the ED's radar. The ED had conducted searches at several locations, including the flats of Sujaykrishna Bhadra and his son-in-law. With the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) now actively engaged in the investigation initiated by the ED, the focus is also shifting towards another prominent city industrialist.
