SC halts mosque survey orders, restricts lower courts in pending cases
A group of 22 women Members of Parliament (MPs) from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have lodged a formal complaint with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, calling for appropriate action to be taken in response to what they consider an inappropriate gesture made by Congress MP Rahul Gandhi during a recent parliamentary session.
The incident in question occurred during a parliamentary debate, wherein Rahul Gandhi, a Congress MP, allegedly made a flying kiss gesture as he concluded his speech. The gesture has been met with strong objection from the group of BJP MPs, who have criticized it as lacking in decorum and respect for the parliamentary setting.
Union Minister and BJP MP Smriti Irani voiced her concerns, stating, "I raise a strong objection to a particular incident that unfolded before me. The individual who spoke prior to my address exhibited behavior that can be characterized as indecent before departing. Such behavior, which includes a flying kiss gesture directed towards a Parliament where female members are seated, is indicative of a misogynistic attitude. This level of undignified conduct is unprecedented in the history of our country's Parliament."
