Opposition MPs to visit Manipur today as unrest continues in violence-hit state

As the unrest continues in Manipur, a delegation of Opposition MPs from the bloc named INDIA is gearing up to visit the violence-hit state on Saturday. The delegation's objective is to gain a comprehensive understanding of the ongoing situation and assess the ground reality directly.

During their two-day visit, the MPs will closely observe the prevailing conditions and gather first-hand accounts from the affected communities. Based on their observations, the delegation plans to make recommendations to the Parliament and the government, aiming to address the escalating crisis in Manipur.

The Opposition has been voicing their concerns about the situation in Manipur and demanding a statement from Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the House to address the matter.

Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury emphasized that the delegation's visit is not driven by political motives. Instead, they are embarking on this journey to empathize with the pain and hardships faced by the people of Manipur. Chowdhury further criticized the government for failing to fulfill its responsibility in containing the violence in the state, adding to the urgency of the delegation's visit.

According to online reports, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh has granted permission for the Opposition bloc's visit to the state. The MPs have requested the use of helicopters to survey remote and inaccessible areas, enabling them to gain a comprehensive perspective of the crisis's reach.

The delegation comprises prominent leaders from various parties, including Congress, TMC, JMM, DMK, NCP, RLD, RJD, RSP, VCK, JD(U), CPI, CPI(M), SP, IUML, AAP, Shiv Sena, and DMK, among others. They plan to meet Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey on Sunday morning and visit relief camps in both the valley and the hills to better understand the plight of the affected people.

Since May 3, the northeastern state has been grappling with ethnic violence that has tragically claimed over 160 lives. The delegation's visit holds significance in shedding light on the situation and urging appropriate action to restore peace and stability in Manipur.
