In the aftermath of the recent panchayat elections in West Bengal, the state assembly witnessed intense discussions on the disturbing incidents of violence against women. However, the Speaker, Biman Banerjee, refused to allow the proposal for discussion put forth by the BJP, leading to the party's MLAs staging a walkout while raising slogans.
The incidents of women being stripped naked, beaten, and subjected to vandalism in various parts of the state have sparked outrage, and the BJP attempted to bring a censure motion and adjournment regarding women's safety during the assembly session. Under the leadership of BJP women legislators, including MLA Agnimitra Paul, the assembly erupted into a heated uproar.
Women who were victims of torture in Malda were also present at the assembly premises, lending a poignant voice to the issue. Agnimitra Paul strongly condemned the lack of safety for women in West Bengal, stressing that no one is secure in the state.
