Bidhan Nagar East police station has achieved a significant breakthrough as they apprehended Nadeem Qureshi, alias Kapil Tyagi, a notorious thief hailing from Salt Lake. The accused, known for his obsession with stealing since childhood, is allegedly involved in a staggering 1200 cases across the country.
The breakthrough came after an extensive investigation into thefts reported in two consecutive flats at Saurabh Awas, Salt Lake CL block, in the year 2021. An amount of Rs 12 lakhs in cash and valuable items were stolen during these incidents. During the probe, the name of 55-year-old Nadeem Qureshi surfaced, leading the Bidhan Nagar police to his capture.
Notably, Nadeem Qureshi has a long history of criminal activities, having spent twenty years in jail for his past crimes. Upon securing bail, he would resume his thieving activities. With an extravagant lifestyle that included an expensive car and pricey shoes, he operated with a driver and a bouncer. Nadeem Qureshi's modus operandi involved accessing any residence with ease, taking the lift to the top floor, and observing recently closed flats during his descent.
Using tools from his briefcase, he would forcefully break the locks and carry out thefts not only in West Bengal but across the entire country. His arrest marks a significant triumph for police, as they put an end to the notorious crime spree of this experienced thief.
