In response to heavy rains and subsequent floods in Yavatmal district's Mahagaon taluka, two Indian Air Force helicopters were deployed to rescue 45 stranded individuals. The region experienced torrential rainfall, causing houses to be inundated and forcing residents to seek shelter on higher ground.
Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis tweeted about the situation, stating that 45 people were trapped in Anandnagar village of Mahagaon taluka. He confirmed that Indian Air Force helicopters would be dispatched to Nagpur and then proceed to Mahagaon to rescue the stranded civilians. Mahagaon taluka recorded a staggering 231mm of rainfall.
Wing Commander Ratnakar Singh, Defense Public Relations Officer (Nagpur), stated that Mirage 17 V5 helicopters were deployed for the rescue operation in Yavatmal.
The district administration reported heavy rains since Friday night, resulting in flooded houses and roads in various parts of Yavatmal. However, the situation was brought under control, and affected individuals were safely evacuated to secure locations.
District Magistrate Amol Yedge mentioned that the city received 117.5mm of rainfall since Friday night. In response to the emergency, a team from the State Disaster Response Force was dispatched to Anand Nagar village to conduct rescue operations.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation, and efforts are ongoing to provide assistance and support to the affected communities in Yavatmal's flood-hit areas.
